All his life Pechstein has been longing for genuineness or nativeness; therefore he travelled to Italy and France, to Switzerland and the South Seas. In 1909, 1911, 1912, 1919, 1920 and 1939 he found long-lasting inspiration in Nida, a spot in the Curonian Split (today Lithuania).
