Pechstein returns to Zwickau in the late summer of 1915 and is immediately called in the army – just after arriving from his adventurous but also life-threatening return journey from the Palau Islands. He starts his soldier training in the Zwickau army camp in September 1915. Afterwards he is sent to the western front.
