Max Pechstein, The dance (dancers and bathers at the forest pond)

1912, colored lithograph
Inv. no. 1959/669, acquired in 1956

Pechstein creates fluent transitions: nudes and the body in motion, dancers and bathers. After his stay in Paris in 1907, lasting several months, the artist also thoroughly deals with the art of the so-called ‘Fauves’ and the work of Henri Matisse. Pechstein’s composition and arrangement of figures commemorate the famous painting ‘Dance’ created in 1909 respectively 1909/10 by Matisse
