The milieu introduced by Klengel perfectly illustrates the daily life of the costal dwellers in the Netherlands in those days which the artist only knew thanks to artistic examples. As the Dutch Masters do he also focuses on the realistic expression of atmosphere, weather and clouding which almost evolves into an independent motif besides the fisherfolk’s hustle and bustle at the beach.
